A mountain rising 700 feet, collecting more than its share of natural snow, and facing north to foster early snowfalls and excellent late season snow. Nature's bounty is augmented by 500 snowguns, assuring plentiful snow from November through April.
A total of 74 runs are spread over the face of this 700 foot mountain. There are acres of wide-open beginner runs. Mile-long intermediate cruising runs. Two mogul runs, five terrain parks with dozens of hits, jumps, rails and other terrain features. Super-steep expert chutes and tree skiing glades. Terrain for all abilities. You can ski for days and still be discovering new runs!
Over the past years, Granite Peak has become an entirely new ski area: 60 new runs have been added for a total of 74 runs; 500 snow guns were put in place; Six new chairlifts have been installed, including a new high speed COMET Express; a massive new chalet has been built and the historic stone chalet restored; and an entirely new base village, including new ticket, rental and ski school buildings, came into being.
Seven new lifts have been installed over the last nine years. The first three new lifts opened up 30 new runs on the Eastern side of the mountain. The third new chairlift opened up 20 more new runs to the West The following year, Granite Peak installed the longest high speed chairlift in the Midwest, the "Comet Express". This high speed, six-place chairlift is located right in the center of our 74 runs and offers access to more than one-third of our terrain.
A dedicated beginner's chairlift was installed last year and a new Star Lift Wonder Carpet, a specialized conveyor belt tailored to meet the unique needs of learning skiers and boarders. The Wonder Carpet lift is especially great for children just learning to ski or snowboard.
Thanks to the most powerful and sophisticated snowmaking system in Mid-America, Granite Peak offers plentiful and reliable skiing all season long. More terrain and more snow needs more grooming — and that makes full-time work for Granite Peak's eight Snowcat groomers. They roll seven days a week to ensure excellent ski conditions from your first run in the morning right on through the day and evening.
